Are you holding onto a personal story that you know needs to be told, but you're not sure how to transform it into a compelling story?

Memoir is more than writing your memories. Our existence is at once mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual, and each of these aspects of self are reporting different details of each moment. However, we don’t always consult all sources when shaping our stories.

To write memoir that is textured, layered, and immersive is to become an archivist sifting through each version of the story to determine which details best communicate the truth of your experience.

How do we learn to hear the nuances of these different stories? What happens when we treat our own story with curiosity before recounting what happened for an audience?

In this class, we'll explore how to become witnesses of our own stories by introducing a process for memory observation and analysis, somatic practices for recalling tender moments, and tools for sharpening sensory language.

We will work with one memory throughout the engagement to follow how the story is shaped by our listening and questioning. This is an embodied craft course that supports healing and wellness as much as it builds a foundation for memoir writing.
